Leigh de Souza-Spagnoletti
BCom, BProc, Conveyancer, Accredited mediator (CEDR)
Leigh de Souza-Spagnoletti commenced her legal career in the late nineties. For the last twenty years she has practiced in the fields of insurance, personal injury and family law. She sat on the Johannesburg Attorneys Association Committee for five years between 2004 and 2009 and during this time was involved extensively in engagement relating to the RAF legislative changes.
She also sat in regular court meetings aimed at streamlining and improving the administrative function of our courts. She held an Exco position in a community-based animal welfare organisation for some years although practice demands saw her step down to focus on an ever expanding practice.
She qualified as a conveyancer in 2008 and is a CEDR accredited mediator.
In more recent years, she has chaired the national RAF committee of SAMLA and has sat on its mediation committee. Since 2022 she remains on the mediation as well as the investigative and disciplinary committees of the LPC.
Leigh has formulated several SAMA accredited training workshops and regularly provides training in her fields to a number of different medical/legal entities.
Leigh remains focused predominantly on family and delictual law litigation but the function of our courts and a need for effective dispute resolution in these fields has seen her practice shift into the mediation space.
She holds a particular interest in the law of trusts insofar as it relates to the management and administration of awards made to incapacitated plaintiffs/patients.
In June 2023, she was appointed as an acting judge of the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg.
